Can progenitor cells become stem cells??

This paper talks about under conditions such as lost of sperm stem cells in the niche can result in the transit-amplifying cells reverting back to take the place of stem cells. This has been hypothesized for a while, but these authors provide evidence by using elegant labeling experiments.
